Aaah... I have returned to Ithaca with reprieve from the relentless deadlines that have forced me to focus my thoughts on work instead of the weekly musings that keep me supplied with material for blogging. I have spent more time on the road over the past few months than I have in my apartment in Ithaca. Predominately, I was traveling between Ithaca and Baltimore for work and pleasure; however, I also frequented New York City, had an overnight with my mom in Atlanta, and spent two weeks in Peru. I will write more about the latter in a future entry. As I stepped off the bus from New York City this evening, I sensed that all of Ithaca was returning to the city from Thanksgiving vacation. I was reminded of my college years in sleepy New London, Connecticut. Life's cyclical patterns are interesting.

New York City subway moments:

1) At midnight on Thursday, October 28th I found myself seated next to two women. As we rode together for a couple of stops, we discovered that each of us had found $5 in the previous week while we were either at or on our way to work. How unlikely was it that the three of us strangers experienced such similar luck during the same seven day period? We fell-out laughing in response to our discovery.

2) Shortly after 5:30 AM on Sunday morning, November 7th I tiptoed between vomit and a backpack with three human skulls fastened to the outside that belonged to a semi-conscious homeless man sprawled on the stairway that lay between the exit to my sister’s neighborhood and the 1 line bound for lower Manhattan and the NYC Marathon buses. The scene was disturbing. Whose skulls were those?
